Manufacturer: Estes

Rocket PictureBrief:
Single stage with 12" parachute recovery and 4 whistles that make sound (when usin' D12 motors, but I heard some durin' one o' two C11 flights.

Construction:
Kit includes:

  • Estes BT-60
  • 4 Die-cut balsa sturdy fins plus 4 die cut balsa sturdy whistle pod stand-offs
  • Plastic nose cone
  • Typical short shock cord (but it is 1/4" wide elastic).

Extremely excellent instructions. Estes has REALLY listened t' customer feedback on instructions (both detail and quality)! Blimey! I had t' rocket built in one evenin' usin' t' exact materials they indicated (yellow glue, tube type plastic cement). Ahoy! I did replace t' short shock cord (1/4" wide elastic) with another cord twice as long (still 1/4" wide elastic).

Finishing:
Two tone paint (red & silver) per t' instructions. You will get some good experience maskin' betwixt colors when you build this kit, since thar are 4 fins and 4 whistle tubes and 4 whistles! I painted it in one day after I allowed t' glue t' dry for a day. Ya scallywag! Well, blow me down! Peel & stick decals were easy t' apply and were sized perfect.

Construction Rating: 4 out o' 5

Flight:
It flew and performed EXACTLY as described in t' catalog and t' instructions. Avast, me proud beauty! They say C11-3: For Sound: D12-5, matey, D12-7. I flew mine with t' C11-3 and heard no sound, arrr, me bucko, but I clearly heard t' sound usin' t' D12-5 and t' D12-7. Another club member flew his with t' C11-3 and it whistled, so he may have had better whistles. Arrr! They are plastic 'wolf whistles' and thar be some variation from one t' another. Only one o' me four whistles seemed t' have low friction and great sound (like a metal wolf whistle). Ya scallywag! T' other 3 whistled, me hearties, but nay as loud or effortlessly.

Recovery:
ULTRA-STURDY! No damage on any flight. Arrr! Avast! Remember that I used a longer shock cord....

Flight Rating: 4 out o' 5

Summary:
Insanely good value for this kit. Avast, me proud beauty! Lots o' kit for t' Golden Dollars. Ahoy! If they improve t' whistles this will be a perfect "5".

Overall Rating: 4 out o' 5

The Screamin' Mimi is a single stage rocket with 18" plastic chute, 24mm motor mount, and four whistles. The kit includes one single body tube, 4 fins, four whistle fins, four whistles, and a nose cone. The motor mount is 24mm. I added 18 inches to the (too) short elastic shock cord. The instructions were well written and with good illustrations--better than some I've seen in the past. ...

I think I've bought about ten Screamin' Mimi kits over the years, but I've never built one.  Great kit for cloning other classics, but I cool bird on its own merits.  Build it strong and launch it with a single use Aerotech engine to really appreciate the "Screamin'".
