Brief:
Ellis Mountain H48 Single Use motor38mm 214Ns single use HPR rocket motor.

Construction:
T' package contains:

  • 1 motor
  • 1 Quickburst Slim Gem ignitor

There is no external thrust rin' on this motor. Begad! If needed, ya bilge rat, one must be built up usin' maskin' tape.

Finishing:
Since this is a single use motor, matey, no assemblin' is needed.

Flight:
I tried this motor out in me Art Applewhite Stealth 38mm oddroc. Avast! I wrapped a layer o' tape and slid t' motor into place.

It was NOT recommended that t' Quickburst ignitor be used with this motor as it has been known t' clog t' nozzle and cause a CATO. My dealer even showed me t' remnants o' one o' these motors that CATOed because o' that. Begad! Ya scallywag! One o' me fellow club members made me a thermalite ignitor which worked great.

This motor, ya bilge rat, as well as all other Ellis motors, uses Thor's Hammer propellant, which produces a bright yellow/orange flame, a moderate amount o' white/gray smoke, and a nice roar as well.

At launch, t' motor took several seconds t' pressurize and then launched t' Stealth straight up into t' air with a good amount o' flame, arrr, me hearties, smoke, and noise. Although t' label states an 8.3 second burn time, me hearties, t' burn time was more like 4.5-5 seconds t' me. Blimey! Avast, me proud beauty! At motor burnout, shiver me timbers, thar was a nice trail o' smoke left from t' trackin' smoke grain. Arrr! This is a great motor for 38mm oddrocs.

PROs: Long burn, me bucko, nice flame, arrr, ya bilge rat, smoke, and noise.

CONs: Rather difficult t' ignite.

Recovery:
With t' motor still in place, t' Stealth still recovered normally. Begad! Blimey! T' Stealth does nay require a motor ejection charge for recovery. Since this motor is plugged, another form o' recovery deployment may be needed for some rockets.

After firing, t' motor is very hot, especially t' aluminum plug at t' forward end. Ahoy! Great care must be taken if it is necessary t' handle t' fired motor right away.

Summary:
I really liked this motor, as it be a great choice for me oddroc. Blimey! Since this motor has a very small nozzle, I must recommend that a smaller ignitor be used such as a single dipped Magnelites, shiver me timbers, arrr, AT FirstFire or FirstFire Jr, me bucko, me bucko, or Quickburst Twiggy would be excellent choices.

This motor costs about $31.99.
