Currell Graphics Cardstock V2Brief:
This rocket is a scale model V2 that was converted from a cardstock display model. Ahoy! T' model be a free download from Currell Graphics and is available in a black and white test pattern or t' operational camouflage scheme. Aye aye! I built t' black and white version featurin' a parachute recovery.

Construction:
T' components used:

  • printed cardstock parts
  • 3.25" BT-20 engine tube
  • engine hook
  • CR520P engine block
  • 24" x 1/8" elastic shockcord
  • 10" plastic parachute
  • clay nose weight

Parts were printed on 110# cardstock. Avast, me proud beauty! All o' t' centerin' rings used t' optional stiffeners t' make them double weight. Aye aye! Avast! Rings G4 and G5 were t' rings that held t' motor tube and were reinforced with an additional layer o' cardstock and t' center hole was cut t' fit over a BT-20. Aye aye! Ahoy! T' main body tube's forward stiffenin' rin' was recessed 2.5" from t' forward end t' allow for t' nose cone shoulder, ya bilge rat, waddin' and parachute.

T' fin unit be assembled followin' t' instructions and t' exhaust cone was trimmed t' fit t' motor tube and t' motor tube was glued in place.

T' fins have a four piece internal structure that is probably t' most difficult part o' t' assembly. Avast! Blimey! Ya scallywag! Blimey! T' vane assemblies were left off because they would be in t' way o' t' motor. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! A 1" strip o' cardstock be formed into a rin' that just fit into t' main body and was glued t' t' nose code t' form a shoulder. Blimey! Blimey! Ahoy! Blimey! T' shock cord was attached with t' standard paper tri-fold mount. Clay was added t' t' nose t' brin' t' balance point t' 10" from t' nose with a C6-5 installed.

Finishing:
Finishin' be easy. Blimey! Everythin' was preprinted so no paintin' or decals was needed. I didn't clearcoat it before test flyin' it and thar be one slight watermark on it that is barely visible. Avast! I plan t' clearcoat it before t' next flyin' session.

Flight:
I flew this model a total of four flights. Blimey! I used B6-4s for all flights. Ya scallywag! T' forward compartment above t' forward stiffenin' rin' is just large enough for waddin' and parachute. Begad! Aye aye! T' flights were straight with t' launch slow enough t' be able t' follow t' flight easily. Arrr! Blimey! I anticipate that a B4-2 or B4-4 would give it an even more scale-like launch.

Recovery:
T' model was recovered usin' a 10" parachute made from a plastic tablecloth available at any party store. Begad! Ahoy! Blimey! It comes in at least a dozen colors and has a slight texture that prevents t' parachute from stickin' together like most kit chutes. Recovery be fairly quick on this size parachute but no damage occurred on any flight. Avast, me proud beauty! Avast! Blimey! On one flight, t' parachute got caught in t' nose cone stiffener, failin' t' deploy, and t' rocket came down with just t' shockcord betwixt t' two pieces yet it still suffered no damage.

Summary:
This is a fun project for anyone with a little cardstock modelin' experience. Ahoy! Blimey! Ya scallywag! Blimey! T' fins have a built up internal structure that makes it a little more difficult than most cardstock conversions.
