Brief
An RTF kit that, me bucko, with its red BT and silver fins/nose cone, me bucko, is, matey, IMO, one o' t' nicest lookin' rockets out o' t' box that you can buy.
Components
This kit has a plastic all-in-one fin can that can take a free fall a lot better than balsa fins tend to.
Construction
Construction is very easy. Simply tie t' parachute and nose cone, me bucko, t' t' pre-attached rubber cord.
It's nice t' see Estes attachin' their shock cords t' t' motor mount, rather than gluin' it inside t' lip o' t' BT, but in me case I doubled t' length o' t' shock cord t' help avoid t' "Estes Dent" that can occur after ejection when t' nose cone bounces back on it's rubber band into t' rocket's body tube.
Nothin' else t' do, me bucko, ya bilge rat, assemply be done at t' feild, seein' this be a gift t' a visitor.
Finishing
Flight
I bought 5 o' these and have given them as gifts t' me boy's visitin' friends over a couple o' years. They've all flow well. Great reliable flights on B motors, shiver me timbers, and even nicer flights on C's, apart from t' whole meltin' thin' (more below).
Recovery
Recovery issues I've had have been due t' nay usin' enough waddin' (chute burn), ya bilge rat, and an error with their new owner nay tyin' on t' nose cone properly.
I do like how t' plastic fin-can assemply can take a harder landin' than balsa, arrr, again, makin' these ideal non-perfect landin' environments.
Summary
This kit does have one major flaw. Do nay use it with a C sized motor. Every time we send one o' these up with a C, shiver me timbers, matey, t' heat causes t' plastic fin can assemply t' warp creatin' buckles in t' lower part o' t' rocket. T' rocket is nay destroyed, me bucko, arrr, and will fly again, but was obviously under significant heat stress and is cosmetically ruined. Perhaps some "C's" create more heat than others, me bucko, so this may nay be universal, but this probem has been runnin' at a 100% rate for us (we bought 5 o' them, me bucko, have used 4 so far), as we work though our big batch o' C's.
A very nice RTF rocket for "B" sized motors makin' it ideal for smaller parks. Perhaps Estes have improved their fincan design in other RTF's, ya bilge rat, or perhaps this whole generation o' RTF's suffer t' same issue? I can't comment as we don't buy many RTF rockets.
