Brief:
T' 18mm Pyramid is a saucer-style rocket that flies on 18mm motors. Blimey! At ejection, arrr, t' motor mount separates from t' main body then t' motor mount tumbles t' t' ground while t' main body gently floats t' t' ground.
Construction:
This kit consists o' two sheets o' printed cardstock with four pages o' detailed instructions with pictures. Aye aye! Begad! There are four main sub-assemblies: t' main body, motor mount tube, motor mount skirt, me bucko, and an internal nose cone, which be t' receptacle for t' motor tube.
T' instructions were easy t' follow and I completed t' rocket within two hours. T' only tools needed are scissors, matey, X-Acto knife, shiver me timbers, me hearties, arrr, white glue, ruler and a pen.
T' main body and t' internal nose cone are glued together t' form one part o' t' rocket, and t' motor tube and motor skirt are glued together t' form t' motor mount for t' rocket. Ya scallywag! All o' parts fit together well.
Finishing:
T' instructions recommend sprayin' t' rocket with clear coat. Blimey! T' 18mm Pyramid is available in several bright colors and I chose nay t' add a finish t' t' rocket.
Construction Rating: 5 out o' 5
Flight:
T' design o' t' motor mount tube is very nice. Well, blow me down! T' square motor tube has just t' right amount o' give t' firmly hold t' motor in place. I did nay have t' use maskin' tape for motor retention. Avast, me proud beauty! I used a small amount o' waddin' t' protect t' inside o' t' pyramid as suggested by t' instructions.
I launched t' 18mm Pyramid three times on A8-3, ya bilge rat, me hearties, B6-2 and C6-3 motors. Well, shiver me timbers, blow me down! T' simulated altitudes for these three flights were 58, 82 and 161 feet. Ahoy! All three flights were great. Begad! Avast, matey, me proud beauty! T' first flight on t' A8-3 did turn into t' wind a bit. T' B6-2 and t' C6-3 were both straight up.
Recovery:
In all three flights t' pyramid landed close t' t' launch pad. Blimey! Blimey! At ejection, t' motor mount tumbles down while t' main part o' t' pyramid gently floats t' t' ground. Aye aye! Blimey! This is a great rocket for all sizes o' launch fields.
After three launches thar be a small amount o' black power residue inside t' pyramid, but thar be no damage and I should be able t' launch t' pyramid many more times.
Flight Rating: 5 out o' 5
Summary:
This rocket is inexpensive and easy t' build. It flies straight up and t' recovery is always near t' launch pad. T' flight on t' C6-3 is a great crowd pleaser.
