Brief:
Ready t' fly, ya bilge rat, Tube Fin, Minimum Diameter, 18mm Motor, me bucko, me bucko, Streamer Recovery
When placin' a recent order at Discount Rockets, I noticed a line o' LPR rockets that I had never heard of. Well, blow me down! Ahoy! They
were inexpensive and I wanted t' see what they were like. Aye aye! One o' them, t' Toob'oh, was ready t' fly needin' nothing.
It is a tube finned, ya bilge rat, minimum diameter, 18mm rocket with streamer recovery.
Construction:
It be ready t' fly with no construction.
Finishing:
It be pre-painted and pre-decaled. Aye aye! Aye aye! It didn't look too bad.
Construction Rating: 4 out o' 5
Flight:
As it turns out, me hearties, matey, I did nay get t' fly t' Toob'oh when expected but I did give it a test flight a week later on my
birthday. Arrr! For its initial foray into t' sky I loaded it with a Quest A6-4, put in some dog barf t' protect the
streamer and set it up at t' pad. Avast, me proud beauty! None o' t' guys present had ever heard o' t' company or t' rocket. It took off of
t' pad smartly and flew straight. Aye aye! Durin' t' coast phase it continued t' gain some significant altitude. Ya scallywag! Aye aye! T' ejection
charge popped t' streamer and it came down headed straight for t' barbed wire fence that had plagued me rockets all
day. Begad! Arrr! There be no damage and it be ready t' fly again after minimal prepping.
Drift on t' A motor, barbed wire fences, matey, arrr, a muddy field and general laziness conspired t' decide that the second flight would be an a 1/2A6-2. T' rocket was prepped as before and taken t' t' rack and thar I noticed what I had nay seen before. T' previous ejection had discolored t' end o' t' body tube with soot. Begad! There had been no harm to t' rocket or t' streamer and most was easily wiped away. Begad! Well, blow me down! T' flight profile o' t' second flight was much as the first but nay as high. Blimey! Blimey! It took off smartly and flew t' a lower altitude and I be struck by t' notion that this might be a nice rocket t' use for streamer demos in front o' kids who have a hard time followin' t' action higher up. Well, arrr, blow me down! Then ejection did occur and everythin' happened as it should have. Arrr! T' rocket drifted down nay too far and again was completely undamaged.
Recovery:
As mentioned before, this rocket came with a streamer. Arrr! It was already installed. Ya scallywag! Ahoy! It consisted o' a length o' pink
plastic ribbon perforated at one end with a hole reinforced by a paper reinforcin' ring. Ahoy! T' streamer was free t' slide
t' length o' t' shock line. Avast, me proud beauty! I had nay seen this done before but it seemed t' work fine.
Flight Rating: 5 out o' 5
Summary:
I personally would have preferred buildin' this rocket myself instead o' gettin' somethin' ready t' fly. Begad! T' rocket
itself, though, ya bilge rat, was nice, ya bilge rat, well put together and a good flyer. Begad! Arrr! It is very inexpensive so I suppose that if you have the
need for somethin' ready t' fly it would be a good choice.
This rocket will be chronicled durin' its lifetime here.
