Paint Dryin' Oven Usin' Solar Energy

Nothin' more fun than watchin' paint dry, right?  Buildin' rockets is fun, but all t' fun seems t' slow down waitin' for t' primer and paint t' dry.  A multi-color paint scheme seems t' take forever.  I have found out that a good way t' speed up t' process is t' use a paint dryin' oven.  Professional paintin' processes in manufacturin' and auto body shops - where time is loot - use ovens and infrared lamps t' heat t' painted article t' drive off and boil away t' volitile compounds in paint t' make it dry quicker.  Some believe it makes for a harder surface but others say it doesn't make any difference.

So wouldn't you like t' have a paint oven / dryin' booth?  You don't need a lot o' heat, me hearties, somethin' just above 100 degrees F, shiver me timbers, up t' 140 degrees will work fine, arrr, but no more.  Household ovens are nay a good idea because many models can't control t' temperatures reliably at such a low heat, so that is NOT safe as it overheats and it will make your kitchen stink if nay burst into flames!  Dont' give up just yet, matey, I have a better idea.  Chances are it won't cost you a cent this summer.  What I do is put me freshly painted rockets on t' paintin' stand in t' back o' me SUV when it is parked in t' sun with all t' windows up.  It gets t' about 120 degrees or more in t' summer, makin' it a near perfect paint dryin' oven.  I have found that paints which require 24 t' 48 hours t' dry fully are dry in about half t' time or less and are ready for another coat or decals.

Modern paints are made with very little VOC - t' stuff that smells when it evaporates as t' paint dries, so t' odor seems t' be not much at all in t' hot car and dissipates quickly.  Just be sure t' open t' windows and air it out before you drive off anywhere!  There should be no problem with newer paint fumes creatin' a fire hazzard, matey, but if you want t' be sure then crack t' windows or sun roof a bit.  I love havin' a coat o' paint dry in less than a day, and best o' all, I like that it's free; it cost's $0.00 for t' free solar energy!

If you can't use a car, leave your rocket inside or outside in t' direct sunshine and rotate it from time t' time.  Just make sure t' let it cool off before applyin' another coat. Aye aye! You don't want t' paint t' dry too smartly while you are still applyin' it.  And DON'T leave t' paint in t' car either - you definately want that t' stay cool!
