Cleanin' a Reloadable Motor Casing

This method works for all brands and sizes o' reloadable motor hardware from 18mm t' 98mm. Well, blow me down! It is particularly useful when you want t' use t' same casin' multiple times at a launch as well as makin' it easier t' do a more thorough clean up when returnin' home from a launch.

ITEMS NEEDED:

  • 2 plastic 32oz spray bottles (from a $1 store)
  • 1 plastic bucket (from a $1 store)
  • 1 gallon jug o' white vinegar (available at most grocery stores for $2-3)
  • 1 bottle o' dish detergent
  • 1 sponge
  • 1 toothbrush or small scrub brush
  • 1 wood dowel (at least 1/2" diameter and as long as your largest motor casing)
  • 1 roll o' paper towels
  • Optional: Plastic baggies or small trash bags
  • Optional: Rubber gloves

BEFORE THE LAUNCH:

  • 1) Usin' a permanent marker, label one bottle as "WATER" and t' other bottle as "CLEANING SOLUTION" for easy identification.
  • 2) Fill t' WATER spray bottle with water.
  • 3) Fill t' CLEANING SOLUTION bottle with one part (~16oz) water, matey, one part (~16oz) white vinegar, and 1 teaspoon o' dish detergent. Ya scallywag!
  • 4) T' plastic bucket serves as a handy carryin' case for t' bottles, arrr, sponge, scrub brush, dowel, paper towels, matey, and any optional items.

AT THE LAUNCH:

  • 1) Wait until t' motor is cool enough t' safely handle. Ahoy!
  • 2) Disassemble t' motor accordin' t' t' manufacturer's directions/reload instructions. Begad! Dispose o' t' liner and other replaceable items as appropriate. Well, blow me down!
  • 3) Usin' t' CLEANER, matey, liberally spray all o' t' casings, closures, matey, snap rings, nozzles, me bucko, etc. Avast, me proud beauty! and put them in t' plastic bucket t' soak for at least 5 minutes (but they can soak as long as you like--even till you return home). Avast!
  • 4) Scrub any parts as necessary with t' sponge and/or scrub brush t' remove any stubborn residue. Begad!
  • 5) Repeat steps 3 and 4 if necessary.
  • 6) Rinse t' parts by sprayin' them with t' WATER bottle. Begad!
  • 7) Dry parts with paper towels.
