El Cheapo Rocket Stand

Rocket StandIntro:
A cheap rocket stand.

As I have built more and more rockets I have started t' have a problem with how t' store them. T' ones like t' Big Bertha have fins that they stand on, ya bilge rat, but many rockets do nay have those big swept fins, and end up layin' on thier side, which is bad for t' fins. Ahoy! Blimey! So I have started t' make t' El-Cheapo Rocket stands for t' fleet. Ahoy! Blimey!

Component Description:
To Build t' El-Cheapo, you will need:

  • A spent 18mm Motor casin'
  • A spent 13mm motor casin' or a suitable length o' 1/2" dowell
  • A scrap piece o' lumber (1x4 works good along with 3/4" plywood)
  • 1/2" drill bit and drill.
  • Glue
  • Paint (optional)

In UseMost o' us have plenty o' t' above materials, and if you are short on wood, Home Depot usually has a bin back by their cut-to-size saws that has discounted pieces o' lumber at reduced prices. Avast, me proud beauty!

First start by makin' t' base. I have found that 4" square is a good size for most o' your 18mm motor model rockets, for larger rockets, you can make them bigger. Begad! Next drill a 1/2" hole in t' center o' t' wooden base about 3/4 o' t' way through t' wood. Ahoy! Now you can fit t' dowell or 13mm motor in that hole and slide t' 18mm motor on t' dowell. Glue t' whole assembly together usin' whatever glue that you have. Aye aye! I also fill t' top o' t' 18mm Motor with glue so that t' crud stays inside. Then, if you like, you can paint it. Avast, me proud beauty!

You can make this as fancy as you like by addin' nameplates, or stainin' a nice piece o' wood for t' base, but I prefer t' use what you have approach and make them as cheaply as possible. Begad! You can also make this for 24mm motors by usin' a 24mm motor and a 18mm motor in place o' t' 18mm and 13mm motors.
