Brief:
This is a simple t' construct single stage, mid t' high power rocket with a payload section and through t' wall fin design. Ya scallywag! Ahoy! Blimey! Kit is designed t' use motor ejection for parachute deployment. Begad! A 38mm motor mount is included with t' kit. A motor mount adapter is nay included for t' use o' 29mm motors.

Construction:
Kit components come packaged in a heavy duty bag and include: Two LOC heavy duty glassine coated paper tubes for t' airframe, one is 22" long and pre-slotted for through t' wall construction o' t' fins and t' other tubing is 12" long and intended for t' payload section. There are also three pre-cut plywood fins, matey, two plywood 38mm centerin' rings, shiver me timbers, me hearties, one plywood bulkhead, one plastic nose cone, 18" nylon parachute, shiver me timbers, 10" o' 38mm LOC glassine coated paper tube for t' motor mount, me bucko, 17' o' 1/2" flat elastic shock cord, arrr, one 3/8" stainless steel eye hook for parachute attachment to bulkhead, one 5.75" long coupler tube, me hearties, matey, matey, and one 8.5" x 11" page instruction sheet with three illustrations showin' a aft view, a side exposed view o' centerin' ring/motor mount tube assembly in main airframe, ya bilge rat, me bucko, and the payload assembly.

LOC/Precision Nuke ProMaxx

I began construction by wickin' t' edges o' t' body tubes and motor mount with CA for added strength and t' prevent t' paper tubes from frayin' during sanding. Well, blow me down! LOC instructions begin by requirin' t' modeler t' remove t' glassine coatin' from t' MMT by peelin' t' coatin' off or sandin' it down t' allow for better adhesion o' t' epoxy. Arrr! Avast! T' MMT centerin' rings are sized t' have this layer removed and fit very well. I opted t' sand t' glassine layer with 100 grit sandpaper and used 30 minute epoxy throughout t' build. Arrr! I added a third centerin' rin' t' provide support under t' forward area o' t' fins in the event o' hard landin' t' prevent a fin from crushin' t' body tube. Avast, me bucko, me proud beauty! T' fin slots cut into t' body tube were a little short and a quick sandin' cleared this up. T' coupler tube fit in t' body tubes a little loosely so a thin layer o' epoxy was used t' build t' OD o' t' coupler up.

I built t' rocket mostly stock but did make some basic modifications. Ahoy! Blimey! I added an ejection baffle system t' t' coupler tube t' do away with using wadding. Begad! Blimey! Since t' kit came with a payload section, me bucko, arrr, shiver me timbers, I used a zipperless design. I also attached rail buttons instead o' usin' t' 1/4" launch lug that is included in t' kit. Arrr! Begad! Blimey!

T' LOC/Precision instructions are minimal but complete and easy t' follow. T' assembly order is typical o' most kits and begins with t' motor mount assembly and then continues with addin' t' fins. Begad! Next be t' payload section and attachment o' LOC shock cord by tyin' one end t' t' nose cone and the other end t' a small piece o' nylon strin' that is glued t' t' inside o' the body tube. Since I used a zipperless design I didn't use t' LOC method of shock cord attachment t' t' body tube so I don't know if it works.

PROs: Very sturdy kit that builds smartly and easily, parts are good quality, and this rocket should stand up t' many flights.

CONs: None.

Finishing:
Elmers Wood Finish be used t' fill t' small spirals in t' body tubes and fill t' grain in t' fins. Blimey! Model Master Red Putty be used t' fill the imperfections on t' nose cone and coverin' pass for t' fin fillets. Aye aye! Several coats o' Rustoleum primer were sprayed and wet sanded for a smooth finish. Blimey! The intermediate coat was applied with Rustoleum Gloss White and this was followed with several coats o' Boyd Grape Pearl and finally three coats o' Rustoleum Clear Gloss be applied t' protect t' t' coatin' and give t' color depth. Begad!

PROs: T' body tubes are o' very good quality and very easy t' work with and finish. Ya scallywag! Aye aye! T' spirals are so small and shallow that just primin' them would probably take care o' them. Ya scallywag! Avast, me proud beauty! T' plywood fins are very easy t' finish as well since thar be very little exposed grain t' deal with.

CONs: Decals do nay come with t' kit but are available for download at the LOC website if you want t' make your own decals t' match t' rocket pictured on the instruction sheet.

Construction Rating: 5 out o' 5

Flight:
LOC/Precision recommends t' rocket be used with mid and high power engines up to an I357. Arrr! With t' low weight o' t' rocket I would recommend stickin' t' the manufacturer list unless you want t' see this baby go mach. Well, blow me down!

Final weight came in at 20 ounces. Avast! Aye aye! With t' 38mm motor tube this rocket can be launched with an Aerotech J350W-14 and per Rocksim can be sent t' about 7000' and hit 960 mph.

PROs: Large variety o' motors available for this kit and it's designed strong enough t' handle them.

LOC/Precision Nuke ProMaxx CONs: LOC recommends use o' maskin' tape for friction fittin' t' motor into the motor mount and I completely disagree. Begad! I never use t' friction fit method for retainin' any motors above an Estes C or D. Avast, matey, me proud beauty! I installed two #4-40 brass threaded inserts designed t' accept machined Allen screws into t' aft centerin' rin' and used small clips t' hold t' motor in place.

Recovery:
I used t' supplied elastic shock cord and t' nylon chute supplied with the kit. Aye aye! With an ejection baffle built into t' rocket thar was no need for a chute protector or waddin' which made preppin' t' rocket on launch day that much easier and faster when gettin' it ready for flight.

Loc Pro MaxxT' parachute shroud lines are nay o' t' best quality but they work OK. T' chute diameter is sized correctly for t' weight o' t' rocket. I added a small swivel t' t' chute and it worked well. Avast, me proud beauty! There wasn't any excessive rotation o' t' rocket on t' way down on any o' t' flights.

I flew t' Nuke Pro-Maxx three times at t' Jim Turner Memorial launch held at t' McGregor Field near Waco, shiver me timbers, matey, TX, matey, and all three flights were outstanding. Blimey! Aye aye! I began with a AT G33J-7 and followed up with a AT G104T-6 and then a CTI G69-9. T' rocket handled each motor well and delays were right on t' money. Avast, me proud beauty!

Summary:
This is an excellent rocket that meets t' needs o' a flyer interested in gettin' into mid power rocketry. Arrr! Blimey! It is well designed, well built, matey, arrr, and boosted straight as an arrow.

PROs : Easy t' build and easy t' fly on different size fields with the large assortment o' motors that can be used.

Cons: None.

I like to say that the Nuke Pro Maxx is a really nice kit and that it looks great and I highly suggest you get it.
