Brief:
This guy is a good starter's rocket, ya bilge rat, me bucko, as it is easy t' build, fun t' fly, and yet it presents more o' a challenge than t' "ready-to-fly" kits.
Construction:
T' instructions were easy t' follow with basic sketches t' depict just about every step. Avast! Arrr! I felt that no special measures needed t' be taken durin' assembly -- just follow t' instructions!
Finishing:
I find t' best way t' finish small diameter rockets, shiver me timbers, me bucko, such as t' Wizard, is t' cut and bend a coat hanger and insert it into t' body tube. Then spray paint t' exterior. Well, blow me down! A good coatin' o' sandin' sealer on t' fins will hide t' wood grains. Unfortunately, matey, arrr, I only used one coat o' sandin' sealer -- two or three coats would have given t' fins an almost plastic-like finish. Well, blow me down! T' decals are simple self-adhesive and just need t' be cut out. Well, me hearties, blow me down! I didn't use t' decals for t' fins as they are triangular and t' fin angle won't match t' edge o' these decals. Begad! When completed, t' rocket is pleasin' t' see if time is taken on t' finishin' details.

Flight:
For t' first flight, I used an A8-3 and was pleased with t' results. T' rocket flew straight and true and t' streamer deployed just as t' rocket arched over. Well, blow me down! Aye aye! This be a great motor choice as t' rocket gained a fair altitude without goin' out o' sight. I recommend that you should wrap a piece o' maskin' tape around t' motor t' give it a firm mount. T' Wizard has no motor mount and uses t' body tube itself t' house t' motor. You want t' make sure t' motor is a very snug fit -- if it's too loose, t' ejection charge will blast t' motor out t' back and nay deploy t' streamer. Well, blow me down! Lawn darts are no fun.
T' other flights, I used B6-4's. These motors were almost too powerful as I personally lost sight o' t' rocket (a few others claimed t' see it all t' way). Arrr! Avast, me proud beauty! T' Wizard arched slightly in this flight, but nothin' major.
I haven't used t' C6 motors on this rocket, matey, and wouldn't recommend it unless you have an exceptionally clear day and very sharp eyes! If you do decide t' launch on C's, I'd recommend placin' a little dry, powdered paint in a square o' wadding, me hearties, me hearties, me hearties, so t' rocket can be tracked when it reaches apogee. Ya scallywag! Begad! Also, matey, I used two squares o' waddin' and found this t' be quite sufficient.
Recovery:
T' Wizard uses t' standard Estes shock cord system -- t' folded paper. Ya scallywag! Make sure that thar are no edges o' t' shock cord paper stickin' out, so your streamer doesn't get snagged. Aye aye! A simple plastic streamer is included in t' kit and is very easy t' assemble. Well, blow me down! I found t' streamer recovery t' be effective -- t' rocket once landed in a parkin' lot from about 900' feet with no more damage than a scratch on one fin.

Summary:
This is a great kit for someone who wants t' step up from t' ready-to-fly or almost-ready-to-fly kits. Ya scallywag! Begad! Even though it is a very simple and easy kit, make sure you spend time buildin' it well. Use fillets and make sure t' fins are as straight as possible t' get t' best from this kit. Begad! Begad! T' one and only problem I had with t' kit, was that t' nose cone fit was too tight -- I had t' sand down t' nose a bit before it was just right. Have fun with this kit!

A very easy kit to build, good price. Brief: One of very few good Estes little minimum diameter rocket kits. Construction: The kit includes: 8.75" of BT-20 EB-20 NC-20,plastic ogive 3 balsa fins 1" x 18" streamer ~18" of shock cord Construction was easy taking about 2 hours. You could do it in half an hour with cyanoacrylate (CA). No problems here. Motor retention is ...
Upon becoming seriously involved as a BAR in the spring of 2001, I went looking through local hobby stores, hoping to find that some of my favorite rockets from my early years were still available. The Wizard, a high flying minimum diameter rocket, turned out to be the sole remaining holdover from my original fleet. Included in the kit: 1 - 8.65" BT-20 (BT-20B) 1 - Engine block ...
This is truly a great beginner's rocket. I picked it up, being a BAR, to get myself back into the rocket building world. I built mine exactly by the instructions. When preparing for flight, I find it sometimes difficult to pack the streamer so that it ejects with no problem. If I were to build another, I would tie a length of Kevlar to the engine block for use as the shock cord. This way, there ...
Brief: The Estes Wizard is a basic 18mm rocket but it's a very fast and high flying rocket. Construction: The kit came with 8.75" of BT-20, a launch lug, engine block, shock cord, streamer, a plastic nose cone and die-cut balsa to make fins. The Estes Wizard is extremely easy to make, especially since the motor is friction fit so you just need to glue in the engine block. ...
