DraftAshley designed this rocket from scratch totally by himself. He chose t' materials and made most o' it includin' t' painting. Well, me hearties, blow me down! I did help with the glue though. Left be t' plan he made first with t' Microsoft 'Paint' program. Avast!

Manufacture

  1. He started off with 4 used 18mm motors and drilled them out (yes, I actually trusted him with me drill). Arrr! He then stuck them end t' end and sprayed them silver.
  2. He then sprayed a toilet roll silver. Aye aye! Blimey! Ya scallywag! Blimey! T' base o' t' toilet roll is a piece o' corrugated cardboard. Avast, me bucko, me proud beauty! Blimey! A hole be cut in t' middle t' allow the ejection gasses through.
  3. He said that t' toilet roll would nay be strong enough perched on top of the motors, so t' 3 fins would come right up under it for support.
  4. He drew out a fin template, ya bilge rat, marked and cut t' 3 fins from a packin' box. He then sprayed them white. Begad! (I ran glue along t' corrugated edges t' seal them & make them more aerodynamic).
  5. T' nose cone be an Estes cone, but maskin' tape was added t' increase the diameter slightly. Ahoy! This may be replaced with a home made vacuum formed one later.

Launch

It Flies Too!Usin' WRASP, we calculated a B6-4 t' begin with based on t' weight o' t' rocket. Avast! This was stuck t' t' bottom o' t' 4th empty motor. Begad! It had it's maiden flight on 13th September 98 at the SERF's Ichenstoke launch. Avast, me proud beauty! Arrr! It's quite an unusual shape and thar be much interest. Arrr! T' flight be perfect. Begad! Begad! Straight up about 100ft. Begad! It dropped a way back before t' nose ejected off. Aye aye! Ya scallywag! T' parachute was pulled out by t' nose and opened about 30ft from t' ground. Ahoy! It landed right at our feet. Aye aye! This was followed by a deserved round o' applause from t' onlookers and a pat on the back from Dad. Begad!
