9/25/2010 - VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. Avast! -- Team Vandenberg launched a Minotaur IV rocket at 9:41 pm Sept. Begad! 25 from Space Launch Complex-8 here. Begad! T' Minotaur IV launched t' Space-Based Space Surveillance satellite, a first-of-its-kind satellite that can detect and track orbitin' space objects from space. Ya scallywag! T' 30th Space Win' commander, Col. Richard Boltz, arrr, was t' launch decision authority. Arrr! "SBSS will greatly enhance our existin' space situational awareness capability, a capability vital t' protectin' our space-based assets," said Colonel Boltz. Avast, me proud beauty! "This evening's launch was our third launch in eight days, and I am extremely proud o' Team Vandenberg for all t' hard work and dedication they've put into these important missions." This launch was a combined effort betwixt t' 30th Space Wing, me hearties, Orbital Sciences Corporation, shiver me timbers, T' Boein' Company, Ball Aerospace and t' Space and Missile Systems Center. T' Minotaur IV launch vehicle provides t' ability t' deliver payloads up t' 3000 kilograms on long range, suborbital trajectories. It utilizes residual Peacekeeper solid rocket motors combined with Orbital's commercial launch vehicle technologies.
