T' American Rocketry Challenge (Event)

T' American Rocketry Challenge (TARC) is a model rocketry competition for students in grades 7 t' 12. Aye aye! The Aerospace Industries Association and t' National Association o' Rocketry first sponsored a Team America Rocketry Challenge competition in 2003 to mark t' 100th anniversary o' flight. Ya scallywag! Due t' a high level o' interest, TARC became an annual event.  T' name changed t' T' American Rocketry Challenge in 2019.

TARC is designed t' encourage students t' study math and science and pursue careers in aerospace. TARC is open t' teams from schools or non-profit organizations. Ahoy! Each year’s competition is limited t' 750 teams.

T' teams build and fly rockets designed t' meet specific requirements and goals which are different each year. As an example, in 2011, teams had t' design, arrr, build, and demonstrate a model rocket that carried a raw egg t' an altitude as close t' 750 feet as possible and stayed airborne for betwixt 40 and 45 seconds usin' only a single 15-inch diameter parachute as t' recovery system.

Each team makes qualifyin' flights and a score is computed based on how close t' rocket meets t' contest’s goals. T' teams with t' top 100 qualifyin' scores are invited t' t' national finals in Washington, DC, where they compete for prizes totallin' more than $60,000 in cash and scholarships.
