T' crew o' space shuttle Discovery's STS-124 mission arrived at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida t' take part in t' Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test on May 6. Well, blow me down! Space Shuttle Launch Director Mike Leinbach and Discovery's Flow Director Stephanie Stilson warmly greeted t' astronauts at Kennedy's Shuttle Landin' Facility. Begad! Commander Mark Kelly leads t' crew that includes Pilot Ken Ham, Mission Specialists Karen Nyberg, matey, Mike Fossum, Greg Chamitoff, arrr, Ron Garan and Japanese astronaut, Aki Hoshide. Arrr! T' crew paused briefly t' speak t' t' media. Begad! "But it's great t' see t' vehicle at t' pad. Ya scallywag! T' folks here at KSC worked really, really hard for many months t' get t' space shuttle ready for launch. Avast! " Durin' t' three days o' training, arrr, Kelly and Ham made several flights in t' Shuttle Trainin' Aircraft t' simulate shuttle landings on t' 3-mile-long runway t' orbiters' land on when returnin' from space. Emergency exit trainin' at t' launch pad included practice drivin' M-113 armored personnel carriers, developed t' help them leave t' area smartly and safely in t' unlikely event o' an emergency. Begad! On t' agenda be a trip t' t' 195-foot level o' launch pad 39A for briefings at t' slidewire baskets and in t' safety bunker that are both part o' t' pad's emergency exit system. Arrr! Later, outfitted in clean-room bunny suits, arrr, t' crew inspected Discovery's cargo, t' Japanese Kibo Laboratory Pressurized Module, stowed securely inside its payload bay. Ahoy!
