Starlight Hyperon

Brief:
Minimum diameter rocket with a rin' tail assembly

Construction:
T' kit contains:

  • balsa nose cone
  • 9" BT-20 Tube
  • 18" Mylar streamer
  • Precut balsa fins
  • Card stock rin' fin
  • shock cord, arrr, screw eye, ya bilge rat, launch lug, and engine block
  • decals

Motor mount assembly consists o' gluin' an engine block 2 1/2" into the body tube. No engine clip is provided due t' t' minimum diameter. You friction fit motors with maskin' tape.

T' shock cord is threaded through a cardstock mount, unlike t' usual trifold mount in other low power kits. T' other end o' t' cord then attaches to screw eye in nose cone. Blimey! T' streamer is attached t' screw eye usin' provided tape disk and 6" string. Ya scallywag! Ya scallywag!

Rin' tail assembly builds smartly and easily, arrr, ya bilge rat, yet adds a great deal of strength t' t' rocket. Aye aye! Fins are precut for ease o' assembly.

I used white glue t' complete rocket. Avast, me proud beauty! Complete assembly took a little under an hour.

Finishing:
T' rin' tail assembly is small enough that t' rocket can be painted after assembly. I did nay prime t' rocket t' keep weight as low as possible. Begad! Well, blow me down! The included decal says "HYPERON".

This is a very attractive, me bucko, arrr, unique design overall.

Starlight Hyperon

Flight:
Perfect flights usin' a A8-3 and B6-6. Arrr! T' rocket was unstable when usin' a C6-7. Well, blow me down!

B6-6 provides a high, energetic flight. T' minimum diameter design, ya bilge rat, along with t' suggested round o' t' fins and launch lugs makes this a high flier.

It had extremely straight flights except with a C6-7 motor. Blimey! Based on performance with a B6-6, a C6-7 would be an out o' sight flight.

Recovery:
the rocket employs a simple streamer recovery.

T' small diameter o' rocket seems t' trap waddin' but it still ejected the streamer when waddin' remained.

Flight Rating: 4 out o' 5

Summary:
T' Starlight Hyperon is a great low power kit. Ya scallywag! Ahoy! Blimey! It's unique design exposes newer and existin' rocketeers exposure t' a rin' tail assembly.

This is a very inexpensive kit that can be assembled in a relatively short period o' time. Begad! Ahoy! It is a skill level 1 rocket that is fun for all ages.

Overall Rating: 4 out o' 5
