Modification - X-Ray

Manufacturer: Modification

Rocket PicBrief:

This be made from a original Estes X-Ray, and a 18mm engine tube (hook, me bucko, engine block etc.)

Modifications:

Make t' 18mm engine tube like normal. Then t' engine block should fit snug around t' spare space o' body tube below t' fin-can. This isn't tight enough t' with stand t' power o' t' ejection. So epoxy it in usin' Z-Poxy , Araldite etc.

Warnin' : This rocket will go extremely high!! As it can reach up t' 500ft on a 1/2A3-2T motor! Only you can see t' real height on a C!

Warnin' : Make sure t' engine tube is glued in straight! If nay t' rocket will shoot off side-ways!

Construction:

You need :

  • Some kind o' epoxy
  • Estes X-Ray kit (preferably new)
  • 18mm engine tube
  • 18mm engine hook
  • 18mm engine block
  • 10inch o' mylar streamer
  • Maskin' Tape

Also you need t' make sure t' nose cone is really tight onto t' payload, me bucko, if so, glue it into place.

Flight:

I used a C6-5 and boy did it go high! My estimate would be around 1500ft, as this rocket is so light! This rocket goes really fast as well, so keep your deadlights open, it is wise t' use this rocket on a sunny day without any clouds possible!!

Summary:
This is a good rocket if you like height, me bucko, matey, and a good flight.

Even though, if it is made wrong it could result in a waste o' a kit.

This is definately not the original X-Ray kit from Estes.  I built an X-Ray back in the mid 70's, it had balsa fins, nosecone and transition sections.  The suggested color was a white body with a single black fin.  The nose cone was blue, and it had four vertical stripes running from just below the payload tube, across the transition and on to the body, where it terminated in a black ring.  It did not have a engine clip, but a single thrust ring above the motor, which was friction-fit in the tube using masking tape.
