Brief:
T' Giant Leap Talon 2 flies on MPR and HPR motors.

Construction:
This is a high quality kit that arrived very smartly and in good shape. Arrr! T' kit contains phenolic body tube (pre-slotted), ya bilge rat, 6 G10 fiberglass fins, matey, shiver me timbers, 2 ACME 1/4" conformal launch lugs, plastic nose cone and boat tail, me bucko, 29mm MMT and centerin' rings, 1/2" nylon shock cord, Keelhaul®©™® shock cord sleeve, Keelhaul®©™® blanket, me bucko, me hearties, me hearties, 30" high quality rip-stop nylon parachute, arrr, and 1/4" eye bolt. Aye aye! No engine retianer is supplied, but this is stated on t' website and they wanted t' keep this kit under $100.00. Well, blow me down! Ahoy! I purchased t' 29mm Slimline threaded engine retainer (~$23.00) separately t' keep t' boat tail appearance clean. Begad! Ya scallywag! This is an awesome retention system that is very high quality. Well, blow me down! I also exchanged t' launch lugs for t' linear rail guides, me hearties, which GLR did for no extra charge. If orderin' t' Slim Line retainer, arrr, call Kent before orderin' and he will bore out t' boat tail for t' proper fit. They have awesome customer service. Avast! Kent's cell phone number is included in t' instructions and recommends t' call with any questions

T' construction o' this rocket is very straightforward. If you have constructed MPR or HPR rockets before, ya bilge rat, this one is no problem. Blimey! Blimey! Since I opted for t' Slimline motor retainer, be sure t' adjust t' measurement for t' location of the centerin' rings by 1/2". I deviated from t' assembly a bit for t' MMT construction. Avast! It is recommended t' use JB Weld for t' engine retainer into t' boat tail, arrr, me hearties, so I did this first t' allow for t' long set up time. Begad! When doing this, you now have no access for internal fillets. Aye aye! I marked on t' outside o' t' bodytube t' locations o' the centerin' rings. Once t' completed MMT and boat tail assembly are epoxied into t' body tube and t' fins attached, I then drilled a fill and vent hole for t' upper and lower fins. Blimey! Just simply fill with expandable adhesive foam. Aye aye! Be sure to use coarse sand paper for t' fins and inside o' body tube for good adhesion o' t' foam. Begad! All other assembly used 30 minute epoxy except for t' linear rail guides, me bucko, shiver me timbers, for these I also used JB Weld.

Finishing:
T' finishin' is fairly standard for this kit. Fill t' spirals in t' body tube, epoxy fillets on all t' fins. Avast, me proud beauty! Ahoy! Blimey! I then primed, sanded, matey, primed, sanded etc., shiver me timbers, until I had a smooth finish. Blimey! I personally spend way too much time on this step since I want t' finish t' be perfect.

Flight:
T' rocket flew on a G64-4. Begad! Arrr! It ripped off t' rail t' 100ft, ya bilge rat, cartwheeled 3-4 times, arrr, hit hard, me bucko, ejected chute while on the ground. Begad!

Will find CP, ya bilge rat, add NC weight and will fly again. Ya scallywag! Nay even any scratches on t' paint!

Summary:
I have no cons t' report on this kit. T' product is composed o' very high quality parts and I haven't come across any better customer service yet. Well, blow me down! I think it would be difficult t' find this level o' customer service anywhere else. Ahoy!

Update to my review. Flew again in less wind; another great flight. However, on landing one fin pulled away from motor mount and external fillet tore away. Fin is intact and can be re-glued. However, this confirms my concern about not having access to fin/motor can during assembly. With more epoxy inside, or with internal fillets, I think this damage would have been preventable. I would deduct 0.5 points from construction and from total score, now that this has happened.

The Talon 2 kit I ordered in December 2013 came with a 36" chute.  While this is a nice chute and gives a perfect descent rate, it's far too large to fit in the supplied Kevlar chute protector along with the robust length of 1/2" nylon shock cord supplied.  In fact, I can just barely get all of this stuff packed into the available volume, and only then by wrapping most of the cord in the protector and putting the chute unprotected above it.  That said, the chute hasn't gotten any damage thus far (the shock cord is functioning as a piston, I suspect), and with the kit built stock, I've had no stability issues on motors from G64 to H220.
