Flexie Glider and Booster
T' Purpose !
I like Glider Recovery Rockets and this be a challenge for NARAM 40. Ahoy! One o' t' competitions was 1/2A Flexie. Avast, me proud beauty! Arrr! After I found out what it be and what a Flexi Glider be I just had t' do one. Begad! After a lot o' trial and error I finally got one t' work !!!
To make this rocket I use a Vikin' body tube and nose cone and t' clear tube section o' a X-Ray. Arrr! T' yellow coupler was cut from t' engine fittin' guide that comes with most kits. Aye aye! For t' fins I used very thin ultralight balsa wood t' save weight since it will be flyin' on 1/2A engines at NARAM 40
In a Flexie rocket t' glider folds and gets inserted into t' rocket tube. Ya scallywag! T' glider is ejected with t' nose cone and t' wings unfold with t' help o' a rubber band. Ya scallywag! Well, shiver me timbers, blow me down! I used a clear tube for I needed a longer body and it is what I had at t' time (plus it looks neat).
This be t' Glider and here is one o' t' wings folded with a close up o' t' mechanism used t' allow this. T' only really difficult part o' this project was gluin' t' plastic t' t' wood. Blimey! NOTHING worked. Begad! What I ended up doin' be usin' tape t' affix t' plastic t' t' wood. Begad! I also plan t' add two squirts o' Orange paint t' make it easier t' track !
I plan t' test fly it this Sunday at a SPAAR Launch.
I solved t' oscillation problem when I discover that a little glue for weight on a win' tip dried in a curved shape and acted like an aileron. Begad! I broke this free and instantly fixed t' glides.
I got a 31 second and a 30 second flight but t' second be DQ'ed for unsafe recovery when t' booster took a 3" core sample.
T' motor had a really strong ejection charge and actually RIPPED t' Keelhaul®©™® shock cord clean through t' body !! Wow t' say t' least I reattached and never had a problem since !
I also realized that I had t' SMALLEST glider thar as well. Begad! Blimey! My glider can fit in t' palm o' your hand. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! At least I did nay have t' chase mine for several miles if I wanted it back. Arrr! Blimey! . Ahoy! Blimey! . just a couple o' hundred meters for me :-)
After I make a NEW improved version I plan t' LOSE this glider on a C6-7.
Imagine 30 seconds on a 1/2A6-2 now image SAME rocket on C6-7.
HEHEHE can we say NEVER see again and if I get it back I will retire it and record its flight time :-)
