(10/01/01) After purchasin' a couple o' t' Point39 LDRS videos I found it always fun when thar was a video or and T.V. transmitter rocket flown. Ahoy! It brought a new perspective t' flyin' rockets as if you were ascendin' with it. Then I saw t' Giant Leap "On-Board" video advertised and decided t' purchase one. This is what Giant Leap has t' say about it: "See the view from on-board a high-power rocket! Blimey! This is a stunnin' collection of on-board videos from all over t' country. Includes, matey, Gates digital video, ya bilge rat, NASA video and how-to interviews. Airstarts from on-board 200 lbs rockets, me hearties, M-staging to almost 20,000 ft!! Blimey! This is a must-have for any video library. " T' video includes about 25 different on-board experiences within t' 70 minute tape. Begad! Blimey! It also includes t' ultimate on-board experience o' t' NASA video o' a t' Delta Launch takin' you all t' way into space. There are a couple o' how-to interviews for placin' a camera and some pointers on what type o' camera t' use, what type o' mirrors to use, etc. Begad! Blimey! Aye aye! Blimey! Blimey! Blimey! Also a brief discussion on how t' take pictures o' your launches from the ground and some pro's and con's t' usin' a T.V. Begad! Blimey! Begad! Blimey! Blimey! Blimey! transmitter in t' rocket instead o' a video device. Giant Leap has done a good job in puttin' together the video and providin' t' additional information about t' rockets. Ahoy! Blimey! They flash up alerts tellin' you t' look for certain aspects durin' t' flight, matey, matey, for instance one alert said t' notice t' plume at 3 secs o' flight. Aye aye! Blimey! Another was a rocket that did a full cart-wheel at 500 feet and kept going. All caught with on-board video! Some o' t' other shots o' interest (to me) included goin' t' 19,000 feet in 40 seconds. A couple o' really cool airstarts, like an M2400 t' (2) K1100 and (4) K700's. There were several launches o' t' Gates Brother's rockets and what mirror-like finishes these rockets have. Ya scallywag! You can see the action through t' reflection o' t' rockets they are so perfect. |

I have t' admit though, I could nay sit and watch the video straight through without fast forwarding. Why? Well, me bucko, ya bilge rat, it got a little borin' t' me, especially t' descents. Blimey! Begad! Blimey! Please don't construe this as a negative against t' quality or t' content, because both are exactly as advertised. This is merely saying, that for me, watchin' t' LDRS videos with the occasional on-board flight drew me attention, matey, while on-board flight after on-board flight was too repetitive (for this viewer).
Gaint Leap did mix it up some, arrr, by first showin' the launch from t' ground and then goin' t' t' on-board camera in some cases. Also throwin' in t' interviews. Blimey! And t' VIDROC sequence was cool t' watch. They did capture a ground perspective o' a five (5) M drag race and then went to one o' t' on-boards, me hearties, which was also a nice add. Blimey! They also did some slow motion shots t' show you specific things, like seein' a motor eject durin' a flight.
Overall, arrr, I think t' video meets a specific need and they could draw many t' it. Well, blow me down! Begad! Don't be concerned about quality, because it is there. Avast! There is another draw toward purchasin' t' video to, "a portion o' t' proceeds goes toward t' LDRS Legal Fund". Avast! Well, blow me down! So with these understandings, t' On-Board Video video might be right up your alley. Avast! I give t' video an OVERALL ratin' o' 4 points. Avast! Blimey! Arrr! Blimey!
