I got t' Mean Machine for me birthday and have just finished it. Ya scallywag! There were a few requirements for t' finished rocket:
I began construction as in t' stock kit, except I used 30 min Epoxy instead o' white glue. Avast, me proud beauty! When I got t' t' step about t' tube couplers, I stopped and planned out t' remainder o' t' construction. Ya scallywag! Begad! I used one centerin' rin' and a circle o' thin balsa with holes drilled into it for t' baffle. Ya scallywag! Begad! 1/4" black elastic was attached t' t' tube coupler by a wire looped through t' balsa with t' drilled holes and around t' coupler lengthwise. Begad! I also placed steel wool in t' open end t' aid in t' trappin' o' hot particles. Ya scallywag! T' open end o' t' baffle (with t' steel wool) was glued into t' rocket with THE STEEL WOOL TOWARDS THE FINS! I then cut a bulkhead out o' 3/16" aircraft plywood (I think) and looped another wire through a hole in that. Avast! I attached t' other end o' t' shock cord (it is pretty long) t' t' wire on t' bulkhead. Begad! I then decided t' have a HPR type long payload section on top, ya bilge rat, so I glued t' third coupler onto one length o' tubing. Ahoy! T' nose has a few layers o' tape t' keep it on tight. Avast, me proud beauty! Aye aye! I filleted everything, especially t' top bulkhead, me hearties, with industrial hot glue. Blimey! I filled t' fins with Rock Hard putty, slightly diluted. Begad! It is painted black. I will probably put in a nylon parachute smaller than t' stock plastic one.
It's Estes Mean Machine. It's a single staged rocket originally it is a 24mm rocket made to take D motors but I modified it with a home made 29mm motor mount. Modifications: Since I was planning to use an F-50 motor I thought it would be a very good idea to fiberglass it. I fiberglassed it ...
The Estes Mean Machine(TM) kit was one I remember wanting, but not being able to afford the first time in this hobby. So now, as a B.A.R., I can have it easily. (Also, the kit cover picture is priceless.) I decided to high-power it by adapting it for 29mm motors so its name is now the ...
