fliskits_mudwaspBrief:
One o' t' newest additions t' t' Micro-to-the-Maxx lineup from Fliskits be t' Mud Wasp. Begad! Begad! A unique six tube and fin design rocket.

Construction:
T' parts consisted of:

  • NCB-3AM Nose Cone
  • CA-M Cord Anchor
  • Launch Lug
  • Engine Block
  • 2 Centerin' Rings
  • Motor Tube
  • Body Tube
  • 6 Short Body Tubes
  • Streamer
  • 6 Laser Cut Fins
  • Keelhaul®©™ Cord

T' instructions for t' Mud Wasp are contained on one side o' an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet o' paper with very clear diagrams and concise directions. It be a fairly quick build and someone with moderate modelin' skills can realistically finish t' kit in about an hour.

T' assembly starts with t' motor mount. Ya scallywag! Begad! One o' t' minor "gotchas" is insertin' t' motor block. You put a bead o' glue at near t' top o' t' motor tube and use a motor t' slide t' motor block up into t' glue. Ahoy! Make sure you remove it before t' glue starts t' set!

Next you glue on t' centerin' rings and tie t' Keelhaul®©™ line around t' motor tube behind t' forward ring. Aye aye! While settin' t' motor mount in t' main body tube, I kept havin' difficulty as t' Keelhaul®©™ kept goin' into t' rin' o' glue that I put in t' main tube. I guess this was due some sort o' static/magnetic attraction. Avast, me proud beauty! However, me bucko, shiver me timbers, I eventually got t' Keelhaul®©™ threaded through t' tube and t' motor mount set.

Next you assemble t' shorter tubes by gluin' them together in pairs. Begad! Blimey! After gluin' t' 3rd pair o' tubes, shiver me timbers, your first set should be ready t' be mounted on t' main body tube. Blimey! Blimey! Repeat this evolution 3 times. Then you attach t' 6 fins in t' 'valleys' o' t' six short tubes.

T' Keelhaul®©™ is then attached t' t' nose cone usin' a small braid nail and t' streamer attached with tape t' t' Keelhaul®©™.

Finishing:
When I be buildin' t' Wasp, shiver me timbers, arrr, I had nay given t' paint scheme a thought. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! When finished, I decided that instead o' usin' spray paint I would use some o' me brush on paint and as many colors as I could. Blimey! Ya scallywag! If I had thought it out in advance, I would have painted t' parts prior t' assembly.

Construction Rating: 5 out o' 5

Flight:
MicroMaxx motors only! Blimey! And thats all that will fit! Blimey! Like any o' t' other line kits from Fliskits, arrr, t' Mud Wasp is a straight flier! Blimey! Blink and you will miss it!

Recovery:
T' brightly colored and reflective mylar streamer sure helped in spottin' t' model as it came back down. Blimey! I lost track o' mine until I spotted t' flash o' red from t' streamer.

Flight Rating: 5 out o' 5

Summary:
T' Mud Wasp will make a fine addition t' anyone's MicroMaxx fleet. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Quick, shiver me timbers, fun build and a great flier!

Overall Rating: 5 out o' 5

Fliskits continues to drive the rebirth of Micromax rocketry with this kit. 6 external tubes serve both stability and as anchor points for fins. This is a very simple build, and can probably be done in a half hour. It also flies very nicely on those tiny 1/8A motors. Once you get past the concept that you're dealing with really small parts, you'll appreciate that you're getting very good ...
