Manufacturer: | Scratch |
Brief:
A scratch, me hearties, goonified homage t' both t' Der Red Max and Blue Bird Zero.
Construction:
My primary components were:
This was a simple build and followed a typical pattern o' construction throughout. Well, blow me down! Begad! It did take some effort t' align t' upper and lower fins, ya bilge rat, matey, shiver me timbers, but it wasn’t overly challenging.
All o' t' paint was Wal-Mart spray paint. Blimey! T' decals were t' most fun part o' t' project. Avast, me proud beauty! I had originally intended t' make this a goonified version o' t' Blue Bird Zero but changed me mind when I saw t' EMRR Family Photo Contest. I decided t' combine it with t' Red Max theme. Begad! Blimey! I made t' decals myself incorporatin' aspects o' each. Aye aye! Blimey! T' decals were printed on Avery label paper and clear coated after application.
Flight:
This rocket has flown once on a D12-5 and it flew great. Ya scallywag! Blimey! Recovery was a little rough, me bucko, however. Ya scallywag! Blimey! T' DRBMZ came down quicker than I anticipated based on t' size o' t' chute. Arrr! Blimey! When it landed I saw why -- a hole had been melted in t' plastic chute and another portion had melted together. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! There was no significant damage, however. Ya scallywag! Blimey! Two o' t' lower fins were loosened on impact but will be easily repaired. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Ya scallywag! Blimey! This rocket will definitely fly again, hopefully many more times.
Summary:
A great rocket. Ya scallywag! Blimey! It be fun t' build and flies well. Aye aye! Blimey! Begad! Blimey! It has a distinctive look that hearkens back t' two o' Estes’ more famous creations, and does so in goony way.
