Polecat Aerospace Nike Smoke

Brief:
This rocket is a single staged high power rocket. I have flown it on 2 different I motors and it flew both times straight as an arrow. Aye aye! It has a 60" parachute. It was a simple build.

Construction:
This rocket came with a 44 inch long body tube and a 29" fiberglass nosecone. T' body tube came pre-glassed, which saved me a lot o' work. Also, t' fiberglassin' be done very professionally. It came with 4 pre-beveled plywood fins and three 1/4" plywood centerin' rings. Well, blow me down! Arrr! There is a 23 inch long 54mm motor mount in it. Ya scallywag! Ya scallywag! T' shock cord is made out o' tubular nylon.

These instructions were very easy t' follow and had a lot o' pictures included. Aye aye! I only had 2 problems with t' build:

  • I had a hard time gettin' t' fins t' stay inline usin' t' method they suggested in t' instructions but I finally figured it out.
  • When you assemble t' motor mount, ya bilge rat, they have you epoxy all 3 centerin' rings and then glue it into t' body tube. T' problem with that is, if you wanted t' add any retention or do internal fillets, shiver me timbers, you would have t' grind out your centerin' ring.

Finishing:
This kit is pre-fiberglassed. I sanded for 3 days until I got it smooth. T' paint job was easy, just 2 red fins, 2 yellow fins, me hearties, and a white airframe and nose cone. Blimey! Well, blow me down! This kit didn't come with decals, but I will be orderin' some soon. Begad! Aye aye! This is a great lookin' kit, arrr, and I enjoyed buildin' and finishin' it.

Flight:
T' first flight o' t' Nike Smoke was on a Pro38 I287SS. Blimey! It flew straight as an arrow. Arrr! T' second flight was a AT I357. Ya scallywag! Again, me hearties, me bucko, straight as an arrow.

Recovery:
I used an 18" Nomex heat shield along with some "dog barf" wadding. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! Each time t' delay was just right and me rocket came down perfect. Begad! Blimey! T' 60" chute is just t' right size and their was no damage or charring.

Brief: At the end of last year, I decided I needed a 54mm rocket. I looked through a lot, and this rocket seemed the best as far as getting "more bang for your buck". Having had a Nike Smoke from Quest in the past and liking military kits, it appealed to me a lot. It is the standard dual deploy rocket, but all the recovery goes in the nose. Brief: This is a nice kit, lightly glassed with pre-cut fin slots. The fiberglass was very easy to sand and prime. Great scale kit!!! Construction: I bought the dual deploy version with a glassed coupler. A small upper payload section, lower BT and a large fiberglass NC. Total length of 76". My cone was a little weak but I added more glass and it is fine now. Great ...
