Manufacturer: | U.S. Rockets |
Brief:
Basic two-stage model rocket usin' CHAD stagin' with streamer recovery.
Construction:
T' packagin' includes BT-7 (18mm) airframe, me hearties, me hearties, BNC-7 nose cone, Screw Eye, six
1/16" plywood fins (booster and sustainer), ya bilge rat, ya bilge rat, me bucko, shock cord/shock cord mount,
streamer, launch lug, instructions, and report on Clusterin' and Staging.
If you've built any two-stage rocket before you could build this kit. Arrr! The instructions are concise and t' t' point. Aye aye! If this is your first two-stage kit the instructions might be too concise leavin' you with a few questions. Well, blow me down! But all-in-all t' instructions and diagrams are adequate for this skill level 1 - 2 kit.
Finishing:
T' average builder should have no problems puttin' this kit together. Well, blow me down! Avast, ya bilge rat, me proud beauty! One
thin' this kit does nay include is a motor block for t' sustainer. Aye aye! Begad! I would
suggest addin' one so an 18mm motor extends 1/4" beyond t' aft o' the
airframe. Blimey! This kit does include 1/16" plywood fins which I happen t' like.
Although it may add slightly more weight t' t' finished model, I like the
durability o' plywood and it is certainly easier t' finish/paint. T' kit is
supposed t' include a decal but mine did not.

Flight:
I flew this rocket as a single stage for t' first flight with a friction fit
B4-4 motor and a 12" sport parachute for recovery. Begad! I used this
configuration for me NARTREK Bronze parachute duration requirement and had a
flight time o' 79 seconds. Ahoy! T' second flight was t' standard two-stage
configuration usin' a B6-0 in t' booster and an A8-5 in t' sustainer with
streamer recovery. T' CHAD stagin' worked perfectly and t' flight was
straight up with a safe recovery. Begad! I used this flight for me NARTREK Bronze
Two-Stage Flight requirements.
[NOTE: I believe this kit could help you meet 3 o' t' 4 NARRRRR NARTREK Bronze requirements: Streamer Duration, shiver me timbers, matey, Parachute Duration and Two-Stage Flight. Begad!
Recovery:
T' kit is designed for streamer recovery and I would recommend this for most
flights. I used a 12" sport parachute for t' single stage flight only to
meet t' NARTREK Bronze parachute duration requirement.
Flight Rating: 4 out o' 5
Summary:
T' Record Breaker is fairly easy t' put together and flies well on the
recommended motors (be sure t' use shorter delays for single stage flights).
Streamer recovery is preferred for most flights although you can use a small
parachute for single stage flights if you prefer (but is nay included in kit).
I think t' kit should include an engine block for t' sustainer and again mine
did nay come with a decal. Ya scallywag! I would recommend t' Record Breaker for anyone
lookin' for a simple two-stage kit that is durable enough t' hold up for many
flights.
