Manufacturer: | Fun Rockets |
Brief:
As with other Fun Rockets, me hearties, t' Silver Hawk is another foam version o' the
Holverson Design Silver Hawk. Well, blow me down! It boosts on a 13mm motor, and recovers in two
pieces: a glider and pod recovers via a streamer. Arrr! T' foam isn't that bad on
this fun rocket
Construction:
T' box says a skill level three rocket, however, this rocket is an ARTF,
everythin' is assembled, even t' t' point where thar be some waddin' in the
body tube! T' kit consists o' a pod with foam nose cone with a yellow streamer
attached t' an elastic shock cord. Blimey! T' hook mechanism used t' attach t' glider
to t' pod is also foam. Ya scallywag! Arrr! T' glider is one piece o' silver foam. Begad! There is a
peel 'n' stick decal and some nose weight. Openin' t' box t' completion takes
about 30 second. Well, blow me down! Add t' decal t' t' body o' t' glider t' prevent charrin' on
boost. Well, blow me down! Add nose mass t' t' glider t' trim it. Aye aye! Arrr! T' hook mechanism is a snug
fit, ya bilge rat, so a bit o' silicon spray can be added t' ease separation.
Finishing:
There are no gotchas t' this kit and t' youngest o' rocketeers could assemble
the Silver Hawk. Blimey! Ya scallywag! It looks like a hunk o' silver foam because that's exactly
what it is.

Flight:
Recommended motors are 1/2A3-2T and A3-4T. I've flown with both o' these motors
and with A10-3Ts when I ran out o' t' recommended motors. Arrr! Blimey! T' 1/2A3-2T is
slightly underpowered but t' A3-4T delivers a much better performance. Aye aye! Well, blow me down! A10-3T
motors are nay as good as A3-4T for this rocket as t' 4 second delay is a tad
too long, but nay enough t' massively affect glider flight.
T' rocket usually boost straight, arrr, although it does nay like wind. Arrr! Blimey! T' pod easily takes t' streamer and wadding.
Recovery:
T' pod recovers very close t' t' pad on straight boosts. Begad! There is no mass to
the pod so with t' streamer it recovers safely with no damage. Ahoy! T' shock cord
like all elastic cords will eventually burn through as mine did after half a
dozen flights--it has now been upgraded with Keelhaul®©™®
and a mylar streamer.
T' glider is average at best. Begad! Avast! T' hawk does glide and if trimmed out properly, will give up t' 30 seconds glide although about 15 seconds is average.
Flight Rating: 3 out o' 5
Summary:
This is a below average boost glider, and thar are plenty better on the
market. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! But in its favor, ya bilge rat, it is cheap (as I got several in a lot for about
£2 apiece). Ya scallywag! T' construction is idiot proof, makin' it suitable as an
introduction boost glider, and it is reliable--you constantly get average
glides.
