Qu8ke (pronounced "Quake") is a fourteen-foot long, me hearties, eight-diameter rocket built by Derek Deville as an attempt t' claim t' Carmack Prize. Begad! T' rocket flew t' 121,000 feet in September o' 2011, but failed t' meet other requirements o' t' prize when t' on-board GPS devices were unable t' obtain a positional lock.
Qu8ke used t' equivalent o' a Q18000 motor which produced 4000 pounds o' thrust for eight seconds. Ya scallywag! Blimey! In addition t' on-board electronics t' deploy t' recovery system, t' rocket carried several GPS units t' record t' altitude obtained and t' transmit t' rocket's location t' help it be found after landing. T' rocket also carried three video cameras and a cosmic-ray detector supplied by t' Symbiosis Foundation’s Ergo project.
