Brief:
T' M.A.G.P.I.E. (Minin' Android Geological Prospectin' Ion Engine) is a simple cardstock UFO-style rocket that was designed t' commemorate NSL 2008. It flies on A10-PT motors and is available for download until June 15th on T' Rocketry Blog. Avast! While there, make sure you check out t' back story so you know exactly what you are flying.
Construction:
All that is needed is one sheet o' 110lb cardstock. Ya scallywag! (I think me card stock is ~65lb and it worked, however, your mileage may vary.)
There are 8 parts that you cut from t' printed cardstock. Aye aye! T' main sections are t' body, motor tube, and three 'legs'. Begad! Ya scallywag! You need a sharp hobby knife and a cuttin' mat will help. Ahoy! I won't go into any more detail in case I give bad advice--I built mine before t' detailed instructions were available. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Take your time and use white glue sparingly.
Finishing:
None is required but a clear coat will help protect t' finished model. Well, blow me down! There are currently two color patterns available: blue/amber and red/black. Aye aye! Arrr! I built t' blue/amber version.

Flight:
I found that t' A10-PT that I had in t' range box be used. Micromeister graciously stepped up and gave me a motor. Arrr! Thanks Micro!
All I did be add a tape thrust rin' and slide t' motor in. It flew nicely, me hearties, with some spin in both t' up and down directions. Blimey! Blimey! Micro flew his twice while I was there, me hearties, and it was arrow straight. Aye aye! Blimey! I don't know if this reflects me buildin' skills, t' lighter cardstock, me bucko, matey, or both. It is still a good flier in either case.
Recovery:
It fell nose first but it's light enough that this poses no issue for rocket or spectator alike.
Flight Rating: 5 out o' 5
Summary:
This be a cute, fun kit. Avast, me proud beauty! I suggest you download t' plans and build one posthaste! I'm hopin' t' hear a report o' a mass launch at NSL.

This is a paper 13mm, NSL 2008 Commemorative rocket. Some months ago, I found the link to the plans of Eric Truax's M.A.G.P.I.E.s in PDF form and downloaded them. A lull in my ability to get to my Main Rocket Lab has prompted me to try and build a couple of these interesting looking rockets. There are 2 color schemes of the same plan. Both feature artwork in commemoration of the 2008 National ...
