T' Ninja is a mini-engined streak. Avast! It looks great, shiver me timbers, flies great, me bucko, and can be easily customized.
Like most Estes kits, it comes in a plastic bag. T' fins are heavy cardstock. Avast! T' instructions and diagrams are very good, shiver me timbers, and construction is simple and straightforward. Avast! Estes shock cords are always too short, replace it with sewin' elastic at least twice t' body length. I also usually glue t' launch lug into a fin/body joint instead o' centerin' it betwixt fins. Avast, me proud beauty! This is much easier t' keep straight.
T' only problem I’ve ever had with a Ninja involved t' motor hook. I suggest installin' an engine block, and addin' a couple wraps o' maskin' tape over t' front o' t' hook where it goes into t' motor tube (nearest t' nose). Avast, me proud beauty! On occasion t' hook gets pushed up and t' engine could take off right through t' rocket. Ya scallywag! Blimey! Blimey! This actually happened t' me once, matey, with no damage done. Also, ya bilge rat, make sure t' aft o' t' motor hook will nay be in t' exhaust o' t' engine when it flies, this can be a problem with mini-engines and hooks.
Estes has made finishin' t' Ninja easy. Paint t' nose red, t' rest o' t' rocket black, and apply t' single stick-on decal. Avast! Aye aye! T' decal wraps completely around t' body tube, shiver me timbers, so use some care t' line it up straight. Ahoy! I think it’s one o' Estes better lookin' rockets.
Recommended motors are t' 1/2A3-4T, arrr, A3-4T, me bucko, and A10-3T. T' A3-4T will put it up over 600’, me bucko, and it recovers nicely on a streamer.
Customizin' ideas: Leave out t' mini-engine motor mount and glue in an 18mm engine block. Then fly this rocket on B’s and C’s (be sure t' check stability first). You will need a *big* field t' get it back though. Avast, me proud beauty! Avast, matey, me proud beauty! Or you could add a boattail and move t' fins back even with t' end o' t' body tube, shiver me timbers, this should squeeze even more altitude out o' t' mini-engines.

Construction: 3 (Engine block should be included, too short shock cord.)
Flight/Recovery: 5 (Reliable performer, very good altitude.)

Brief: The Ninja was a mini-engine powered, streamer recovered Estes offering that was available from 1987 to 1998. An impressive performer, the Ninja was hurt only by the fact that it came with fiber fins and lacked a proper engine block. I bought a Ninja for under a buck in 1994 at a hobby shop closing sale and I've had a soft spot for it ever since. The Ninja was the rocket that ...
