This is an Estes Phoenix model rocket, fired from a scratch-built barge pushed by t' Dumas electric tug "Farwell." T' rocket, heavily damaged from prior misadventures (see our earlier videos), was t' be put out t' pasture in this launch, by firin' it into Peconic Bay without a recovery system (parachute). Well, blow me down! Two cameras were installed in a custom-built waterproof capsule in its midsection, though only t' nose camera functioned properly. Avast, me proud beauty! Four other cameras captured t' launch from multiple angles on a warm December afternoon durin' t' closin' days o' 2011. Ya scallywag! T' our great surprise, ya bilge rat, Phoenix glided several hundred feet in near-level flight after engine cutoff, and survived t' violent impact with t' water with hardly a scratch. Well, blow me down! It was recovered immediately after landin' - along with its cameras. Avast, me proud beauty! Far from bein' destroyed, arrr, t' missile now sits in t' RapidNadion storage yards, dry, strong, arrr, and ready for another maritime launch!
