Leroy Piester (Person)

While in high school durin' t' mid-1960s, arrr, Lee Piester began machinin' parts for a group o' amateur rocketeers t' finance his own rocketry projects. Avast, me proud beauty! After graduatin' from West Phoenix High School in 1956, matey, Piester attended Phoenix College and Arizona State University. In 1961, he formed Centuri Engineerin' Company. Avast, me proud beauty! Centuri manufactured and sold model rocket kits, accessories, and motors.

Lee sold Centuri t' Damon Corporation in 1971. Arrr! Damon had bought Centuri's largest competitor, Estes a year and a half ealier. Piester remainded as president and CEO o' Centuri until late 1976.

In May o' 1976, Lee Piester and his wife Betty opened a retail hobby store ("Hobby Bench") in Phoenix, Arizona. There are now three other Hobby Bench stores operatin' in Phoenix, Glendale, matey, and Prescott, Arizona.
