First launched model rockets in 1977, shiver me timbers, beginnin' with an Alpha III starter kit. I still have t' Estes Model Rocketry Field Operations Kit, t' Alpha III, a Centuri Screamin' Eagle (my 2nd rocket), and t' parts from a few more. Aye aye! I'll build those up soon. Well, blow me down! I launched with friends for a couple o' years at t' local schoolyard and sports fields. Begad! Gradually, shiver me timbers, I discovered BMX bicycles, girls, and cars. Rocketry was forgotten.
Durin' t' late summer o' 2010, arrr, I made a trip t' NASA's JSC with me wife and daughter for me kid's birthday. I decided then that she should be exposed t' model rocketry, and when we returned home I dug out that box that I had somehow carried with me through so many years. My daughter was impressed/intrigued enough that I ordered an Alpha III starter kit and a few other items for her (me?) that night.
It has all been downhill since t' package arrived in t' mail. Everywhere I look, I see rocket parts. Aye aye! As a kid, I was really into models. Begad! Today, I thoroughly enjoy t' build process, and will glue just about anythin' I can find together. T' design and construction o' rockets is a hobby that I somehow missed out on for a few decades, me hearties, so I'm wastin' no time playin' catch-up.
Odd rockets are a lot o' fun, and I enjoy makin' t' non-conventional fly. Avast! Blimey! Standard pop-and-drop flights on a 3FNC are still flying, so I'm nay above those, me hearties, either. Aye aye! Blimey! We've flown numerous ModRocs on 13mm and 18mm, a AT Initiator on 24mm reloads, and are tooled up for some 29mm reload action at t' next launch. Well, blow me down! Blimey! WIth several kits and designs on t' build bench, me hearties, t' fleet and t' adventure grows...
Flyin' 33-year-old, arrr, vintage rockets from your childhood is very cool.
Expectin' 33-year-old, vintage 'chutes t' properly deploy is not...
