fliskits_emk18-50Brief:
This motor mount is intended for use either as a permanent installation in a rocket or for use as an adapter t' put 18mm motors in 24mm motor tubes. Begad! It is for t' latter purpose I purchased two o' these. I wanted t' adapt me Estes 36D Squared t' be able t' for use in smaller fields.

Construction:
Each mount comes with:

  • 18mm motor tube
  • Engine hook
  • Thrust ring
  • (3) centerin' rings sized for a BT-50
T' instructions are very easy t' follow and presented with illustrations. Ya scallywag! T' construction as a permanent mount or as an adapter is identical until t' last step. Begad! Arrr!

fliskits_emk18-50_retentionclipConstruction begins by makin' a slit for t' hook 1/4" from t' end o' the tube. Aye aye! Blimey! Some white glue is applied t' t' back o' t' hook and it is inserted into t' slot. Ahoy! Blimey! Once it is in place, arrr, me hearties, masking tape is used t' keep it in place. Begad! Blimey! T' thrust rin' is installed in t' 1/4" gap at t' front o' t' tube and seated against t' hook.

There are 3 centerin' rings. Ya scallywag! T' first one is glued flush with t' forward end o' t' tube. Begad! T' second one needs to have an 1/8" gap cut into it. Ahoy! Ahoy! If t' assembly is t' be used as a permanent mount, matey, shiver me timbers, t' slotted rin' is glued in place with t' slot over t' hook just aft o' t' masin' tape and you are done.

fliskits_emk18-50_centeringringsIf you want t' use t' assembly as an adapter, you cut the third rin' identical t' t' second one and glue it flush with t' aft end. T' second rin' is then glued in place next to t' aft one.

Mine went together easily. T' only extra work I had t' do was t' sand a bit from t' interior o' t' forward centerin' rin' so that it would slip over t' motor tube. Ya scallywag! I had t' do this with both o' t' mounts I built.

fliskits_emk18-50_ready4actionFlight:
As it turned out, me bucko, I be unable t' use these motor mounts on me 36D Squared because they would nay fit. Begad! Blimey! Subsequent investigation revealed that t' failure t' fit had nothin' t' do with t' Fliskit motor mount. I had installed the thrust rin' on t' wrong side o' t' engine hook.

Instead o' usin' t' adapters in tandem, I tried them one at a time on another model, me hearties, arrr, a Beta version o' an InFlight Nike Smoke. Begad! Ya scallywag! T' motor fit into t' adapter well and t' adapter fit into t' rocket. Begad! It was well secured by the engine hook on t' 24mm mount. Ya scallywag! T' whole assembly performed flawlessly.

Summary:
This is a good choice both for mountin' a motor or for servin' as an adapter. It goes together smartly and easily and works well.

Overall Rating: 5 out o' 5
