In late October 2001 Extreme Rocketry (ER) published their first Video production a VHS video and DVD o' LDRS XX. I like t' magazine that they publish so I thought that I would see what they could do with this medium. Ya scallywag! T' DVD cost ten dollars more than t' video but DVD's are usually worth t' expense with added video and better picture quality so I went with t' DVD. I have watched t' DVD several times and have in general been pleased with t' quality, length and production o' this DVD. Ya scallywag! Ya scallywag! There is a very lively and upbeat intro with showin' t' drive out t' t' launch site. Blimey! They start out well with a launch from t' Gate's Bothers, I must say that t' Gate's Brothers projects are incredible. T' Brothers have a great launch complete with two on board video cameras capturin' first and second stage footage which ER cuts seamlessly into thar DVD. Ya scallywag! Begad! T' DVD is never dull or slow thar be always action on t' screen t' production moves along at a quick pace from launch t' launch. Ahoy! Blimey! ER did a number o' t' Gate's Brother rockets; Wedge Oldham's Nike, matey, Nibbles t' Space cat, arrr, Aeropac's 1/16 scale Soviet N-1 and many others. Arrr! They tossed in a few cato's and crash for those who need them, me bucko, includin' t' crash o' Andy Woerner's 1/3 Scale V2, ya bilge rat, a wonderful effort that makes you cringe watchin' it go down. Ya scallywag! T' DVD is lackin' in interviews and rocket descriptions or design features. Begad! Without these extra features I found no compellin' reason t' buy t' DVD over t' video other then t' format itself. T' DVD had no real added footage that would make t' extra ten dollars worth while. Begad! Ahoy! It did have some maps o' t' area and lodgin' info and a few short extra clips. Aye aye! Well, blow me down! They focused mainly on rockets goin' up and nay much on t' ground or t' individuals involved, me hearties, this I think be t' DVD biggest failure. Begad! Alot o' rocketry be t' people who build t' rockets and t' features that they add t' them and what their inspiration be t' build a particular rocket. Ya scallywag! While I liked t' fast upbeat rocket video I felt t' human element was missin' from t' production. I think that ER wanted t' keep t' video movin' along and excitin' and left out interviews thinkin' that they would slow down t' production. Ahoy! This is what makes t' DVD t' perfect format; they can have a fast paced upbeat launch footage with interview in a seperate part o' t' DVD.

T' footage itself is well done, matey, t' color is good and t' focus is sharp and t' cameras are steady. Avast! There are no pad cams, shiver me timbers, but t' do get a hold o' some o' t' onboard footage from several rockets and add it in. Begad! Begad! T' people that they do talk t' are very hard t' see as t' bright sun cast very harsh shadows on thar faces they could have used a second person with a reflector t' cut down on t' shadows.

Overall I found this t' be a good effort by ER for their first video production. Begad! Avast! I hope that in future release, assumin' that thar will be future releases, matey, will have more footage o' t' individuals and their rockets, matey, interviews and add in more bonus features makin' t' for t' extra cost o' t' DVD worthwhile.
