Flight Date: | 2012-08-12 |
Rocket Name: | Estes SkyTrax |
Flyer's Name: | David Reifert |
Motors: | C6-5 |
Launch Site: | Avalon Park, Orlando, FL |
Actual Altitude: | 475 Feet |
Same launch rod angle as previous flight, but the rocket immediately weather cocked a bit after the motor failed to work the first few tries (not enough launch velocity?). The chute deployed tangled while the rocket was headed almost straight down at low altitude. It landed inches from the pond on a strip of land. The chute had ripped loose at three of it's attachment points due to the increased shock of deployment at an excessively downward angle. The small beetle we'd placed in the payload area was dead upon landing :( After recovering Elliot's rocket, Uncle Jeff sees an unlucky Estes EX-200 rocket floating in the water near the shore.
