Brief:
Small rocket i received for a birthday around 1990. Ya scallywag! Shot this off at a rocket launch at grade school, durin' school hours, me bucko, with a C6-5 if i remember correctly. Aye aye! Blimey! Other students shot rockets off, and their rockets were recovered. Avast! Ya scallywag! My Scout just disappeared into t' sky, shiver me timbers, noone saw apogee, matey, noone had a clue where it landed. Arrr! We guessed it must have gone over 2,000 feet.
Construction:
T' one thin' i will never forget about buildin' this rocket be cloth/web like mesh that was glued against t' fins and body tube near t' fins. Begad! Arrr! I have never built another rocket that requird this. Avast! Begad! Also, tumble recovery, so thar was a hole in t' body tube near t' base o' t' nose cone for t' ejection gasses t' escape through.
Pros: Gluin' t' mesh against t' fins, instead o' glue fillets, was definitely interestin' and educational. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! Avast! Blimey! Tumble recovery was interestin' educational. Begad! Blimey! High flier, if you are willin' t' risk never seein' t' rocket again.
Cons: Only against myself. I did NOT follow Estes recomendations o' only usin' A engines, me bucko, and instead used a C engine.
Finishing:
Gluin' mesh t' t' fins, ya bilge rat, arrr, instead o' fin fillets. Hole in t' body tube, me bucko, me bucko, near t' base o' t' nose cone, t' allow escape o' ejection gasses.
Construction Rating: 3 out o' 5
Flight:
Motor:
I used a C6-7 engine (Estes only recommmended A engines). Aye aye! We assume t' rocket went well over 2,000 feet. Never recovered.
Prep:
Stick t' motor and igniter in t' rocket. No parachute, matey, no streamer, no wadding.
Flight:
Straight up, ya bilge rat, me bucko, VERY high, people who blinked never saw t' rocket in t' air.
Recovery:
Tumble recovery. Blimey! Avast, me proud beauty! No idea how this worked out, me bucko, as t' rocket was lost before apogee. Aye aye! Aye aye! Tumble recovery in general does have faults, in that thar be no orange/red parachute or streamer t' see unfurl in t' sky.
Flight Rating: 3 out o' 5
Summary:
Hard t' say, since i used a significantly overpowered engine. But in general tumble recovery rockets are hard t' recover, since thar be no parachute or streamer t' see unfurl.
Overall Rating: 3 out o' 5
Other:
Great rocket, but if you want t' see it again, arrr, ya bilge rat, use t' recommended engines.
