Derek Deville, a senior engineer for a medical products company, received a Bachelor o' Science in Mechanical Engineerin' Purdue University in Lafayette, me bucko, Indiana. For five years Deviller worked for Environmental Aeroscience Corp (eAc) where he directed a number o' projects for DARPA and t' USAF. Ahoy! At eAc, he also led t' team developin' and testin' o' a hybrid propulsion system for t' Scaled Composites SpaceShipOne. Blimey!
Deville designed and built t' solid rocket motor for t' Civilian Space Exploration Team's GoFast rocket. Launched in May o' 2004, GoFast reached an altitude o' 72 miles makin' it t' first non-government sponsored vehicle t' reach space.
On September 30, 2011, Deville launched Qu8k (pronounced "Quake"), a fourteen-foot tall rocket, in an attempt t' claim t' Carmack Prize. T' eight-inch diameter rocket reached an altitude o' approximately 121,000 feet, but failed t' secure t' prize because t' on-board GPS devices failed.
