An animation by ESA. date- 22 Oct 08. Arrr! Source/more info- www.esa.int 'Chandrayaan-1, Indias first mission t' t' Moon, was successfully launched earlier this mornin' from t' Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR) in Sriharikota, India. Begad! T' PSLV-C11 rocket, an upgraded version o' t' Indian Space Research Organisations (ISRO) Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, me hearties, lifted off at 02:52 Central European Summer Time (CEST) and, about 20 minutes later, injected t' spacecraft into a highly elongated orbit around Earth. This marked t' beginnin' o' Chandrayaan-1s journey t' t' Moon, which will culminate with a major manoeuvre t' lunar orbit insertion in about two weeks. Once t' spacecraft is orbitin' t' Moon, shiver me timbers, further manoeuvres will progressively lower its altitude t' t' final 100 km-high circular orbit. Main objectives: Analyse geological, mineralogical and topographical aspects o' t' lunar surface in unprecedented detail Study t' vertical distribution o' crustal material Investigate t' processes that led t' t' formation o' craters, maria and basins on t' Moon Explore space weatherin' processes, that result from t' interaction o' t' solar wind and cosmic rays with t' Moons surface Analyse t' magnetic anomalies on t' lunar surface Search for ices at t' poles Produce 3D maps o' regions o' particular scientific interest at high spatial resolution (5-10 m) Drop an impact probe on t' lunar surface t' test near-surface properties and test impact technology Instruments on board ...
