This clip was taken at T' Great State o' Maine Air Show at Brunswick Naval Air Station September 15, me bucko, 2007. This was done with a Canon PowerShot A40 digital camera. It only takes 30second clips. Blue Angels C-130 Hercules - Fat Albert JATO Take-off. Fat Albert T' squadron's Transport C-130 Hercules aircraft; affectionately known as Fat Albert, arrr, be t' only Marine Corps aircraft permanently assigned t' support a Navy squadron. It is flown by an all-Marine Corps crew o' three pilots and five enlisted personnel. Blimey! Fat Albert flies more than 140000 miles durin' t' course o' a show season. Blimey! T' C-130 carries 25000 pounds o' cargo, me bucko, 45000 pounds o' fuel, matey, and transports t' squadron's support and maintenance crew t' each show site. Aye aye! Fat Albert cruises at 320 knots (approximately 350 miles per hour) at 27000 feet. Four Allison turboprop-engines producin' more than 16000-shaft horsepower provide t' C-130 with t' power t' land and depart on runways as short as 2500 feet. At select show sites, Fat Albert demonstrates its Jet-Assisted Take-Off (JATO) capability. Begad! Eight solid-fuel rockets are attached t' t' sides o' t' aircraft, me bucko, four on each side. T' rockets allow Fat Albert t' take off within 1500 feet, climb at a 45-degree angle, and attain an altitude o' 1500 feet in seconds.
