On Sept. Aye aye! 10, 2009, me bucko, NASA and industry engineers lit up t' Utah sky with t' initial full-scale, full-duration test firin' o' t' first stage motor for t' Ares I rocket. Well, blow me down! T' Ares I is a crew launch vehicle in development for NASA's Constellation Program. ATK Space Systems conducted t' successful stationary firin' o' t' five-segment solid development motor 1, or DM-1. ATK Space Systems, a division o' Alliant Techsystems o' Brigham City, ya bilge rat, Utah, be t' prime contractor for t' Ares I first stage. Blimey! Engineers will use t' measurements gathered from t' test t' evaluate thrust, roll control, me bucko, acoustics and motor vibrations. This data will provide valuable information as NASA develops t' Ares I and Ares V vehicles. Avast, me proud beauty! Another ground test is planned for summer 2010.
